How do you cope with adversity and what gives you hope in such circumstances?

We'd like to invite you to our next CMA in-person event taking place on Saturday 22nd March, from 11am - a day of recollection in St Aloysius Church in Euston, London. The theme of the day is 'Hope', in keeping with the theme of the Jubilee year of Hope and also a topic that is particularly relevant in view of the current proposal of a potential change in the law on Assisted suicide.

Fr Tom Lynch, who has spoken at previous events arranged by the former youth branch, will be giving a talk on 'Hope in Adversity' followed by a time of reflecting on and discussing questions arising from the talk as it applies both to us and to our work as healthcare students, trainees and professionals.

We hope attendees will enjoy meeting one another and spending time together over the lunch break. The afternoon will be a time for prayer, Mass and reflection, focused on Our Lord Jesus. As the number and type of ethical challenge in professional healthcare steadily increases, it can seem a lonely place for Christians. This CMA Youth Conference is designed to offer support and encouragement to the more junior health-workers and students helping them to live out their Christian vocation in the caring professions.

Speakers will be a mix of experienced health professionals and pro-life advocates addressing a variety of topics likely to be of interest and help to Christian health-workers and students. There will be ample opportunity to network with colleagues, make new friends and become involved with the future development of the CMA. The fee for the entire day is only £10 including lunch and all refreshments. Holy Mass will be celebrated before lunch and priests will be available for confession. We look forward to meeting you! H. Newman Cultural Centre will host an event entitled “What is mortal man that You care for him? A dialogue about human dignity and the meaning of suffering” in St Wilfrid’s Hall at the Oratory on Monday 3rd June at 7pm. This will be a dialogue between two Catholic friends who deeply care about the value of life, and the meaning of suffering: Paolo Carozza, Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, and ⁠Fr Vincent Nagle of the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of St Charles Borromeo, who is a chaplain to the Maddalena Grassi Foundation, who assists people at the moment of death. Friday May 31^st - Sunday June 2^nd 2024

Dear CMA member,

You are warmly invited to attend a retreat for healthcare workers at Worth Abbey in Sussex. The Abbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks in a beautiful and peaceful setting. This will be a great opportunity to take a break from the pressures of healthcare work and reflect on the vocation to the caring professions.

Accommodation will be in ensuite rooms with all meals provided.

The retreat will be led by our Chaplain, Canon John O'Leary who is also rector of Allen Hall seminary in London along with Fr Michael Jarmulowicz who is currently a parish priest in London but also a consultant histopathologist and former CMA president. The themes of preaching will reflect the feasts and seasons coinciding with the retreat:

Friday May 31st - Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
"The significance of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary for being a missionary disciple today."

Saturday June 1st - First Day of the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
"Coronary Care: Devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus"

Sunday June 2nd - Solemnity of Corpus Christi
"The Healing Power of the Eucharist"

In addition to the programme of preaching, there will be Holy Mass daily, Holy Rosary and plenty of free time for private prayer and relaxation in the Abbey grounds. Canon John and Fr Michael will also be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and personal spiritual direction. There will also be the opportunity to join timetabled prayer with the monks.
