SUMMARY:Holiness in Healthcare: the four principles of medical ethics and the six values of care in the light of the Gospel (Christus Medicus Group)
DESCRIPTION:Holiness in Healthcare: the four principles of medical ethics and the six values of care in the light of the Gospel\n22 October 2025 18:00 to 10 December 2025 19:30\nHenriette Raphael Building\, Guy’s Campus\, London \nThe Christus Medicus (Christ the Physician) group is for Catholic university students of the healthcare professions and biosciences. \nIn the first semester (October-December) the group will receive a lecture series titled: Holiness in Healthcare: the four principles of medical ethics and the six values of care in the light of the Gospel. Ten in-person talks will be delivered by an exciting range of special and experienced guest speakers. \nThe four principles of respect for autonomy\, beneficence\, non-maleficence\, and justice lay at the foundation of the ‘Four Principles’ approach to biomedical ethics developed by Tom L. Beauchamp and James F. Childress in the 1970’s\, and is widely taught as part of medical education in the UK. \nThe ‘6Cs’ of care\, compassion\, competence\, communication\, courage and commitment are six values which featured centrally in NHS England’s ‘Compassion in Practice’ strategy and which current nursing\, midwifery\, and other healthcare students are asked to put into practice to provide high quality\, compassionate care. \nThe purpose of the ‘Holiness in Healthcare’ talk series is to explore these four principles and six values in the light of Jesus Christ (for example\, His person\, life\, and Paschal Mystery) the teachings of His Church\, and the witness of the saints. Guest speakers will also draw from personal and professional experience to communicate how the Gospel can be lived out in healthcare settings today. \nWe will meet every Wednesday between 6-7.30pm in the Guy’s Chaplaincy room. The first meeting will be a social and meet & greet on Wednesday 24th September from 6pm. \nTo sign up\, please follow the information on the flyers.

SUMMARY:Hope In Adversity – CMA Youth Day Retreat
DESCRIPTION:How do you cope with adversity and what gives you hope in such circumstances? \nWe’d like to invite you to our next CMA in-person event taking place on Saturday 22nd March\, from 11am – a day of recollection in St Aloysius Church in Euston\, London. The theme of the day is ‘Hope’\, in keeping with the theme of the Jubilee year of Hope and also a topic that is particularly relevant in view of the current proposal of a potential change in the law on Assisted suicide. \nFr Tom Lynch\, who has spoken at previous events arranged by the former youth branch\, will be giving a talk on ‘Hope in Adversity’ followed by a time of reflecting on and discussing questions arising from the talk as it applies both to us and to our work as healthcare students\, trainees and professionals. \nWe hope attendees will enjoy meeting one another and spending time together over the lunch break. The afternoon will be a time for prayer\, Mass and reflection\, focused on Our Lord Jesus. Please RSVP by Wednesday 19th March 2025 to youth@catholicmedicalassociation.org.uk Please note\, entrance to the hall will be permitted only to those who have registered. \n
